Gee Bee

Diesen knuffigen Flieger gibt es tatsächlich "in echt". Die Gee Bee wurde als Rennflugzeug in den dreißiger Jahren gebaut. Schöner hätte ich mir so ein Flugzeug auch nicht ausdenken können ;-)

This cute aircraft is not my invention, it is "real". The Gee Bee was built as a racing aircraft in the thirties. I would not have imagine such a plane more beautiful.

Ich kann euch gar nicht sagen, wie sehr ich mich auf die neuen Stickdateien freue. Wenn sie am Freitag im Shop sind, dann komme ich vielleicht endlich auch mal wieder zum Nähen. Mit dem Gestickten. Das ist ganz dringend :-)

I can not tell you how much I look forward to the new embroidery design. When they will be on Friday in the shop, then maybe I'll finally sew again something. With the embroidered fabric. I want it badly :-)

Osterkekse / Easter Cookies

Als mir vor einigen Wochen im Supermarkt dieser reduzierte Lebkuchenteig begegnete, konnte ich nicht widerstehen. Er ist immerhin noch bis April haltbar. Das reicht für meinen Osterschmuck.

A couple of weeks ago I saw that gingerbread pastry in the supermarket. It is preserved until April and I couldn't resist. This is sufficient for my Easter decorations.

Gar nicht so einfach ohne Vorzeichnung, auch wenn ich die Hasen für die Stickdateien alle selber entworfen hatte.  Harry ist zum Hasenmonster mutiert ;-)

Not so easy without any preliminary drawing, even even though I invented all the rabbits myself for the embroidery designs. Harry turned into a bunny monster ;-)

Wo / Where

 ... ist die Zeit heute nur geblieben?? Es ist doch noch noch so viel tun.

... Hefte, Bücher und Karteikarten hat die Post mir in den letzten Tagen und Wochen gebracht. Alles Neuerscheinungen und randvoll mit meinen Illustrationen.

Die Zeit, einmal kurz innezuhalten, nehme ich mir viel zu selten. Jetzt tue ich es.

Ich bin dankbar, diese Aufträge bekommen zu haben, bin stolz, dass ich die engen Termine alle einhalten konnte, bin erleichtert, dass es auch mal wieder einen freien Tag pro Woche gibt (und es zwischen Stift-weglegen und ins-Bett-plumpsen so etwas wie Feierabend gibt), bin froh, dass sich die Hände ein wenig entspannen können, und glücklich, dass ich einen so feinen Beruf ausüben darf.
Hach! Und jetzt wird auch noch Frühling – was will ich mehr?

... exercise books, books and file cards I got in the last days and weeks. All recent publications and all brimful of my illustrations.

I take far too rare the time to pause briefly. Now I do it.
I am grateful to have received these requests, I am proud that I was able to meet all the tight deadlines, am relieved that I have again one day off per week (and that between and put away the pencil and plop into bed is something like time off there), I am glad that my hands may relax a little, and happy that I have such a fine job.
Ah! And now spring has arrived – that is so great!

Silberschwinge / Wing of Silver

So, nun habe ich es endlich getan. Ich habe mir einen Flügel-Anhänger aus feinstem Silber gebastelt. Passend zu Webband, Stickdatei und Stempel.

Die Technik mit dem Silver Clay hatte ich letzten Oktober zum ersten Mal ausprobiert und bin immer noch begeistert, wie einfach das geht – im Vergleich zu den traditionellen Techniken. 

Ich mag besonders, dass es wie handgemacht aussieht.  

Dies wäre ein absolutes No-go in meiner Goldschmiedeausbildung gewesen ;-) Umso mehr genieße ich jetzt die Freiheit, selber entscheiden zu dürfen, wie Schmuck aussehen soll.

Lateinische Umschrift anzeigen

So, now I've done it at last. I crafted a wing pendant of finest silver. Suitable to the woven ribbon, the embroidery design and the stamp.
I am still thrilled how easy the silver clay technique I tried last October for the first time works – in comparison to the traditional techniques. I especially like that it looks like hand-made. 
This would have been an absolute no-go in my training as a goldsmith ;-) The more I now enjoy the freedom to be allowed to decide for myself how jewelry should look.

Fertig / Done

Nun sind auch die restlichen Stempel fertig, die ich schon am Dienstag bei schönstem Sonnenschein belichtet hatte.

Nein, ich lasse mich jetzt nicht dazu hinreißen, über das Wetter zu reden.

Briefumschlag / Envelope

Briefumschläge mit Innendruck kann man sich bei Mapenvelope basteln.

Standort auswählen, Text eingeben und ausdrucken. Fehlt mir jetzt nur noch ein großer Drucker.

Ein Ausdruck auf DinA4 reicht gerade für eine Visitenkarte. Aber eine große Visitenkarte ;-)

Die Sonne / The Sunshine

... schrie heute förmlich danach, Stempel zu belichten. Nach dem Fiasko am Sonntag ist das ein schöner Ausgleich.

Ich hatte nämlich die Andeutung von Sonnenschein abgepasst, die der trübe Sonntag gerade so hergab, um dann festzustellen, dass sich die Stempelplatte nicht auswaschen ließ. Warum? Ich hatte vergessen, die Schutzfolie vorher abzuziehen. WAAAH!
Vertane Zeit, eine versemmelte Stempelplatte und miese Laune waren das Ergebnis.

Jetzt ist alles wieder gut :-)

... today is the best weather to expose stamps. After the mess on Sunday that is a fine compensation.
I used the bit of sunshine on Sunday to expose stamp plates. There after I could not wash out the stamp plate. Why? I forgot to pull the protective sheet before exposure. WAAAH!  

Wasted time, a messed stamp plate and a lousy mood was the result.
Now everything is fine again :-)

So viele / So many

... Säcke mit Vogelfutter wie in diesem Winter haben wir noch nie ranschaffen müssen.

Schlimm genug, welche Temperaturen sie aushalten müssen, da sollen sie wenigstens nicht auch noch hungern.

Den bunten Stieglitz mag ich besonders gern.

It's bad enough that they have to withstand such low temperatures. At least they shouldn't stay hungry.

I like particularly the colorful (european) goldfinch.

Ausflug / Trip

... in den Berliner Norden. Endlich habe ich es mal zur Trendmafia geschafft.

Sonne / Sun

Schönes oder zumindest helles Wetter kann ganz schön Stress machen. Gibt es doch so viele Dinge, die ich dann tun möchte:

· Schnell noch Fotos machen bei dem schönen Licht

· Dafür noch schnell die Sachen fertig bekommen, die fotografiert werden sollen

· Stempelplatten belichten

· Farbwerte bestimmen und Farben aussuchen

Früher habe ich das bei jedem Licht gemacht, bis ich eine böse Überraschung erlebte. Die zwei Gelbtöne, die nachts noch völlig identisch zu sein schienen, waren bei Tageslicht alles andere als gleich! Hilfe, was war das?
Das Schreckgespenst hat einen Namen: Metamerie.

Wer will, kann es bei Wikipedia nachlesen. Wem das zu lang ist, dem sei ans Herz gelegt, Farben in dem Umgebungslicht zu beurteilen, in dem sie später überwiegend eingesetzt werden. Also z.B. Stoffe für die Gartenmöbel draußen ansehen und nicht bei Kunstlicht.

Eins vergaß ich bei der Liste oben: 
· Sonne genießen!

Such a beautiful sunny and clear weather can make quite a stress. There are so many things I want to do:
· Making quick photos at the beautiful light
· Getting the things done that should be photographed
· Stamp plate exposing

· Determine color and choose colors
In the past I've done this in every light until I had a nasty surprise. The two shades of yellow, the night seemed to be identical, were anything but equal in daylight! Help, what is that?
The specter has a name: metamerism.

Anyone who wants to can read it on Wikipedia. If that's too long here is the conclusion: it's more reliable to judge colors in the ambient light in which they are mainly used later. So for example fabrics for garden furniture watch outside and not in artificial light.

Oh, one thing I forgot in the list above: · Enjoying the sun!
